Going for a Knock Out
So many of you wrote me asking where you could find Knock Out roses after I did a column about these disease-resistant, low-maintenance beauties and Bill Radler, the man who created them.
Whether you're looking for the original red Knock Out (pictured here) that was an All-America Rose Selections winner in 2000 or any of its pretty siblings -- Double Knock Out, Pink Knock Out, Pink Double Knock Out, Blushing Knock Out and Rainbow Knock Out -- just click here to find a nursery in your area.

Well I did it! I treated myself to one Rainbow Knock Out and one Pink Knock Out. Besides my beautiful New Dawn climber and two little Fairies, I haven't had much luck with roses. My garden forum friends have encouraged me to give these "carefree" roses a try. Supposedly as long as you can dig a hole, you can grow Knock Outs. I might sneak a little triple super phosphate in the holes for a little added insurance. Now if only the deer leave my bushes alone they should be fine.
How many of you can remember your New Years resoluations? Very few of us I am sure, but Irene did. "to grow more dahlias" as I remember it. Well today was the first big step. I visited Irenes and Harvey's home and we planned out a new dahlia garden. We will include just about every color, size and form of dahlias. We will include some other plant material and I am willing to bet that the garden will be beautiful come late August just when all others are tired. This display will also be a "Knock Out" Stay tuned.
